So one day, you look, no, I mean REALLY, look in the mirror and wonder what is happening…you start noticing things you have never seen before and realize age is catching up with you. Whether you’re 25 or 65, faces definitely change, and depending on your lifestyle and overall health, the degree of what you see in the mirror can vary widely, and you may be a little concerned. Lines and wrinkles, dark circles under your eyes from lack of sleep (or allergies), redness, sun damage, and large pores can all be frustrating conditions that make you feel less than your very best, and let’s face it – the face you present to the world speaks volumes about you. With all these variables (often going on all at the same time), what do you do?
If you are like most guys, the bar of soap in the shower is probably the extent of skin care as you currently know it. Great skin starts with awareness, the correct tools, and a targeted strategy. Think about it this way – look at skin care as a great self-preservation method and a way to keep yourself in the best shape possible. (You go to the gym occasionally, right? Think of this as the gym, but for your face.) I am not talking magic potions here, just a focused plan of targeted ingredients to address your needs. Is your skin rough and scaly? Red and Sensitive? Sun damaged and leathery, or do you have large pores, breakouts, and oily skin? Well then, all these conditions benefit most from changing up how you clean your skin. First, you must ditch that bar of soap you use daily and upgrade to a skin cleanser with active ingredients that deliver results. If you get this step right, impressive changes can happen with this one upgrade.
Keep reading – I’ll show you what to do in a minute. And if you’re looking for more serious intervention, we’ll get to that part, too.
But before we get into the specifics and the products you need, let’s take a quick step backward into the basics territory. Then, I’ll help you identify which of the products here you should consider adding to your daily routine.
1. Identifying the Signs of Aging
Most guys tend to notice similar symptoms of aging—the kind that motivates a serious investment in their skincare game. Jowls, wrinkles around your eyes called ‘crow’s feet,’ brown spots (sun damage), enlarged pores, and increased oiliness are all common complaints that I hear from my clients.
2. You Need a Check Up From the Neck Up…
Let’s start lower before we jump into what’s happening on your face. Aging saves its swiftest and cruelest wrath for your neck.
As a result, everything starts to droop as you get older. Many men grow a beard to minimize the appearance of aging changes on the neck – and to camouflage imperfections in general.
As we get further into the routine, applying serums with active ingredients evenly into the face and neck can help firm the skin, correct sun damage and brighten dark spots, and minimize lines and wrinkles. Remember this: you can’t have a flawless face and an old neck—so make sure you’re taking care of both.
It is also important to know that inadequate Vitamin D levels make the skin thin, saggy, wrinkled, and weak. Your skin is your largest organ, so ensuring it’s strong and healthy is incredibly important to help prevent premature aging.
Healthy age-related skin changes are inevitable (but treatable) and include thinning, sagging, wrinkling, and the appearance of age spots, broken blood vessels, and areas of dryness. Unhealthy skin changes, such as skin cancer, are also more common as we age and are usually made worse by exposure to the sun.
Wrinkle creams, eye serums, and other anti-aging skin care products can help diminish signs of aging. Still, the most important thing to do is create a healthy, daily skin care habit that consists of cleansing and detoxification, hydration, and sun protection. Simple and effective if you are consistent with it. Truly effective anti-aging.
Anti-Aging Skin Care Tips
Step 1 – Protect your skin from the sun:
Sun protection forms the foundation of every anti-aging skincare plan. UV rays age the skin and can dilate capillaries leading to broken blood vessels and flushed skin – not to mention accelerates aging at a ridiculous rate.
Step 2 – Cleanse and Detox Twice Daily:
Cleanse & Clear deeply cleanses, exfoliates, and clarifies the skin without harsh detergents or chemical degreasers. This fresh, water-activated cleanser minimizes large pores, brightens skin color, and refines coarse skin texture. Excellent for clearing clogged pores, eliminating excess oils, and leaving the skin feeling as smooth as glass.
Step 3 – After Shave:
Rapid Repair Fluid is a virtual arsenal of skin-repairing ingredients specifically formulated to treat the needs of sensitive, problem, and environmentally damaged skin conditions. Cool, fresh, and oil-free, this is the perfect anti-inflammatory skin fluid for skin recovery after shaving and sun exposure.
Step 4 – Moisturize + Environmental Repair:
Daytime skin protection should be a blend of antioxidants and soothing botanical extracts to help repair and protect the skin for optimal results. Our Vitamin C + Brightening Moisture Fluid is a true multi-tasking formula for aging skin that minimizes discoloration and stimulates collagen production. Our Vitamin C + Brightening Moisture Fluid provides intensive repair for photo-aging caused by UV exposure and environmental damage and doubles as an intensive Vitamin C serum AND soothing moisture fluid – perfect for humid climates and combination skin conditions.
Step 5 – Stop Smoking:
Tobacco smoke contains deadly carcinogens that lead to a “smoker’s face.” Signs of a smoker’s face include dull and dry complexion, grayish tint, premature lines and wrinkles, and leathery skin.
Step 6 – Eat healthy foods:
A healthy diet promotes healthy skin. Ensure you eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
Step 7 – Hydrate-Hydrate-Hydrate!
I can’t say enough about how important clean water is to any anti-aging program, especially for the skin. Drink half your weight (in ounces) of water daily.
Step 8 – Get enough sleep. It’s called beauty rest for a reason. Sleep gives your body time to refresh and renew itself.
